This page describes the three reading modes available from the toolbar : racing, training, and register. These modes can all use the automatic course detection and the automatic registration from archive provided by Geco.
This is the classic mode for reading ecards during a race.
Geco can be set up as manual or auto for ecard reading. With manual handler, Geco opens the merge wizard for unregistered ecards and ecards read twice or more. With auto handler, Geco instead creates unknown or duplicate entries. Geco can also be set up to create new entries from archive when reading unregistered ecards.
This is a special mode designed to minimize actions and enable an easy workflow during training events.
Geco can still be set up as manual or auto. However only the auto handler provides training functionalities (manual handler is the same for racing and training modes). Contrary to the racing mode, Geco never sets unknown or duplicate statuses for entries. It directly sets the final status, including for anonymous entries.
Furthermore, a duplicate reading creates a new entry (with the detected course) with the identity given for the first registration. A runner can then run multiple exercises (courses) with the same ecard and appear multiple times in results.

Geco only reads the ecard number, no ecard data:
Geco sets [Auto] as default course for any new entry, enabling course detection for the next reading. One can always select the course chosen by the runner. This enables monitoring competitors still running on “real” courses.
Furthermore, an entry created with this mode is already marked as running, to follow more closely runners still in forest (see end of stage).
